Pathless Land…
28 November – 9th December 2023
Signal Arts Centre, Bray, Co. Wicklow
This project is a fully collaborative, multidimensional process, begun in 2020 and continuing to evolve. It began its journey as part of the ArtNet dlr Metamorphosis collaboration (2020-22).
Coming from different disciplines and creative approaches, their metamorphic process explores the potential and power for transformation in a rapidly changing world. They spent time where they could in nature, and natural cycles became an inspiration, as well as the concept of creating collections from nature, so beloved of the Victorians.
Four key concepts represent our explorations: ‘seed’, ‘egg’, ‘meander’ and ‘feminine energy’ (emergence).
The work comprises a 2-dimensional Victorian Hang including visual work from all four artists, a soundscape, video, a collection of 3- dimensional objects – a ‘cabinet of curiosities’.
The soundscape is a sonic reflection or meditation on the metamorphic journey represented in the visual pieces. It explores the four key concepts in a sonic ‘tapestry’; a weave of their voices,
breathing and instrumental sounds.
The work records the artists’ responses to contemporary issues, and their dialogues as they got to know each other. They each contributed visual and audio work to the final piece: a wonderful alchemy that
leaves them all richer both as creative artists and as human beings.
Irish Independent: ‘Pathless Land’ set to find way to Signal Arts Centre
by Tom Galvin, Bray People, Wicklow (25th November 2023)
The title, ‘Pathless land…’ is a reference to J. Krishnamurti’s famous 1929 speech, ‘Truth is a Pathless Land’, in which he rejects the role of spiritual leader or guru.
